How Notifications Work

AssetBuddy keeps you informed about important events through in-app and email notifications.

Notification channels

In-app notifications

In-app notifications appear in the notification bell in the top navigation. They provide a quick summary of what happened and a link to the relevant item.

Email notifications

Email notifications are sent to your registered email address. They contain the same information as in-app notifications with enough context to take action.

Who receives notifications

Notifications are targeted based on the recipient's role and relationship to the event:

  • H&S Admins — receive notifications for all events across the organisation
  • Site Managers — receive notifications for events at their assigned site
  • Owners — receive H&S notifications if they've opted in via the receive_hs_notifications setting
  • Assigned users — receive notifications about defects assigned to them
  • Asset owners — receive notifications about checks failing on their assets

Notification timing

Most notifications are sent immediately when the triggering event occurs. Some are scheduled:

  • Check due reminders — sent in advance of the due date
  • Certificate expiry warnings — sent as the expiry date approaches
  • Contractor defect summaries — sent periodically as a digest
  • Overdue check alerts — sent when a check passes its due date
  • Defect escalations — sent when overdue defects need attention
